Steve McCurry

This past weekend I was in New York for a 3 day workshop with Steve McCurry. Steve is the National Geographic photographer who took the well known photo of the Afghan girl below.

It was such an incredible experience to be able to get to know and shoot with such a master of photography. We spent Friday night getting to know Steve and his work a bit and on Saturday we were told to walk around the city for 8 hours and take pictures, which would be viewed and critiqued by Steve on Sunday. Within those 8 hours, each of us was given 40 minutes with Steve to walk around and shoot together. The coolest part of the whole weekend was my 40 minutes with him - which actually evolved into a 2 hour meeting! He showed me his studio - where all his original prints are stored. We did a bit of shooting, but the best part was just being able to get to know him a bit and pick his brain on how to break into the photojournalistic world. I am humbled by his unique ability to capture the true essence of any moment. Thanks for your time, Steve.
